A privately owned bridge that crossed the Susquehanna River connecting Berwick and Nescopeck opened in 1815 and was swept away by a flood in 1836. The bridge pictured above was built in 1837 to replace it, but was also carried away by another flood and ice jam in 1904. The cost of this bridge was $75,000 and it too, was privately owned. To cross the bridge on foot, a pass was needed and could be bought on a yearly basis.
